here is my mom and dad in high school....how cute are they!
here she is on the far right...her mother on the far left and her sister Colleen in the middle.I really do have the best mom.....words cannot describe how much I love my mom. I love the relationship that we have....however, I wasn't the best teenager (sorry mom), but glad they let me stay around and didn't ship me off to pick pineapples :)......seems like a lot of kids were doing that when I was growing up!
Anyway....let's see....my mom is the best cook...she fixes the yummiest Sunday dinners.....super fancy Christmas Eve dinners.....and yummies Christmas breakfast ever! I am trying to become a better cook...but am learning it takes a lifetime to do this.
My mom is the best grandmother to her grandkids! This lady drops EVERYTHING when the kids come over....she is always baking w/them, making cookies...etc......the kids adore this woman and would pick a sleepover at grandma's house over anything, anyday!
My mom is very open minded. She and my dad raised us to be accepting of everyone. I never ever remember hearing a negative thing come out of my parents' mouths about any group of people or ethnicity....what a great example! What better way to teach your children about equality in all people than to live it? Thanks mom.
My mom is the hardest worker...she works full time and pours everything into her job! She works as a furniture buyer for Overstock.com and loves her job! What a great example of hard work she is!
My mom is the best gardener....no one can make a yard look as nice as my mom....she really enjoys being outside in her yard and planting beautiful flowers!
My mom is always encouraging us to do our best.....never ever ever do I remember my mom or dad telling us to go to college....there was NO pressure...however I am proud to say that all three of us turned out so great! We all have bachelors degrees, good jobs, and our own homes....we have all worked very, very hard to get what we have....but that example was set us early on from our parents....the only way to get what you want is through hard work. She is behind us in all that we do or take on and gives great advice!
My mom and dad are still together! This is my favorite thing about my parents.....they care so much about each other and are always doing things to help each other out...they are always doing fun things and traveling together....not to say they haven't had their problems, like we all do, but they have given us children the biggest lesson of all......the lesson of our sacred wedding vows....for better or for worse.....
I could go on forever about my mom....right now she is planning a huge party for my brother who was diagnosed w/Leukemia as a teenager 20 years ago this month....he is a survivor....and I cannot wait to celebrate this with everyone that supported us through those years! My mom put everything on the line to take care of him, like all mom's would, but to me this party is for her too.....how do you get through something as big as Leukemia without your mom....I can't imagine watching your child go through something like that.
Well Mom....I love you so much. You are my best friend....I love hanging out with you at your house, love chatting with you on IM.....and Sunday dinners at your house. I love watching my kids hang out with you and dad....and really am so lucky to have you as my mom. Happy Mother's Day Mom.

So awesome! I love finding out more about peoples' relationships with their parents. It is really inspiring and helps me remember what's most important - becoming the perfect role model for my children! Sometimes it is hard for me to focus on becoming a better person because I have a hard enough time just surviving each day! But things like this really keep me on track. Carolyn really is amazing, and we've always all loved her! Happy Mother's Day to you, too, Michelle, you are a wonderful mother and have incredible kids!
What a nice tribute to your mom. Carolyn is an amazing cook, talented artist, businesswoman, devoted mother, grandmother, wife, etc. She has a great daughter too. In fact three great kids. Of course she wants to celebrate that in spite of what was once always lethal, she still has all three of them, plus their kids as her grandkids. I agree with Aubrey; you're the best too and I'm glad to get to have some small contact with you through this venue and your willingness to take on the Madsen Christmas party. You guys are the best!
