Now, I am not a perfect mother by any means....I will say that I try my best though at least 50% of the time.
BUT.
YOU!
(grouchy lady at Walmart with her husband and no kids with them....with the WAY too big hairdo.....way too tight of pants for her figure, and shirt tucked in WAY too much)...You are what ruins it for me at Walmart....here is why.....
My Walmart trip started out bad from the begining...I had worked the day before, and decided to take the kids to Super Walmart to get some fireworks (yes, it was July 4th).......so I was tired...and already my blood pressure was up just by declaring that I was going to Walmart.
Chloe had been swimming and was over tired....
so, we (me and the 3 kids) get out of the van...and I use the button on my keychain to close the van door where Chloe got out....thinking I would help her out.
O h N o.
She wanted to close it herself....what was I thinking?
So instead of saying "Mother, I was really wishing I could close the van door myself"....she fell to the pavement (yes, the black hot parking lot) and did a little (but not really little) flop to the ground tantrum.
I started to laugh...it was very funny. Well, if you have children, you know that by my laughing, it only made it wore by a gabillion degrees!
I grabbed her, let her shut the door to the van...and on we went into the store.
She was now fine.
for a minute
Until #1 grumpo lady approached me.
here's what happened.
Chloe then (being tired and all) wanted IN the cart.
So, I put her in.
Then, a minute later, wanted OUT of the cart.
So I got her out.
Then wanted back IN...
So I let her back in....but I was getting mad (but didn't want the drama, so I let it go)
again as we passed the toy isle...she wanted OUT.....
I said, "THIS IS IT!!!! You are out for GOOD now!"
well, first grumpo lady walked past and looked at Chloe's knee....and said to me "did you know her knee was bleeding ALL over?"
uh no...I didn't...but thanks..and uh, it's not bleeding ALL over....barely at all...but I guess this was a result of the parking lot tantrum.
However, if you have a kid, you know that once they see that there is blood...it alllllllllllll of a sudden hurts a gabillion times more!
So, I get a bandaid out of my purse, put it on her leg......then the next drama occurs.....
She says "my leg hurts and is bleeding SO bad! I need to get back into the cart!!"
I said "nope. you had your chance to be in the cart. if you want to get in the cart, you climb in by yourself."
so she says "ok"
(I was not worried..she has done it before, she is tall, and I was holding onto the basket)
so she is trying to climb into the cart...and is alllllmost in......
until Grumpo lady #2 comes by and rushes over to Chloe climbing into the cart and says
"Oh my goodness!! Can you not see that your daughter is trying to climb into the cart?? Are you going to help her or just stand there and watch her??"
I want to say "you better step back or I will sock you one....I am DONE!"
so she picks Chloe up (however she was almost in the cart) and says
"oh my dear....I will help you since your mother won't! And you have a sore knee!"
"oh my dear....I will help you since your mother won't! And you have a sore knee!"
Chloe smiles.
The lady walks away, thinking she just did a good deed.
And I almost kill her...
but don't.
And I think to myself....here I am trying to teach my daughter a lesson until nosey Walmart customer interferes.
And this is why I hate Walmart.
It really has nothing to do with Walmart...but for some reason, that place attracts some strange people...including myself that was there that day.....and it makes my blood pressure rise just walking in there......
I do like their prices...I wish someone would create a Walmart that was minus the typical Walmart atmosphere!
So I want to say, unless someone is doing something hurtful to their child...do not interfere! OR give dirty looks to the mother because
that mother is probably doing the best she can....and beware because that mother may be on her last straw, and may pick you up with her super mom powers and shove you inside a Red Box machine....
really...
that was my plan.
i guess I should say that my day actually ended up fantastic. bbq for the 4th of July and good ol'fashioned fireworks on the driveway with the family....but then, that wouldn't have made as an exciting of a post now would it?

hahahaha oh Michelle!! I can relate!! Read my blog and you will see what happened to me at the Zoo. I seriously was about to start a FIGHT at the zoo. Wal mart does attract some GREAT people. And uh how dare that woman touch your child...how inappropriate!! I hate hate hate when people THINK they have the right to insult you.... they dont know you. They dont see what happened 5 minutes before to know WHY they are crying, or why they are throwing a fit. I have brought 4 kids to wal mart and have gotten MANY looks and glares. I am not nice enough to blow it off...I snap right back and let them know how I feel.. hahaha I lived in West Valley for 3 years.... Little miss nice Jennie got washed away in the Jordan river
First of all...."gabillion"
....hahaha - that is my new favorite word.
Second of all - next time you are approached by gouchy WALMART lady
who thinks you are mean for not helping your daughter into the cart
....you help out her self esteem and make her day by saying, "Oh my gosh...you just saved my daughters life. What would I have done without you? Thank you, thank you, thank you!!" And then you walk away smiling....and shaking your head! ;)-
What a story! We can all relate to strangers wanting to jump in and "help" out when they should keep out of your business. Also, Walmart is a Freak magnet! I shop there, nuff said!
Best. Post. Anywhere. EVER! I have to find the bingo chart for weirdos at Walmart my mom found somewhere. It is true to form & makes shopping there far more tolerable, haha! I'll find it for you.
I always get looks at Target because my 1 yr old refuses to be strapped in the seat & uses the cart like a moving jungle gym. I have to keep 1 hand on her limb at all times, argh.
Love it! I was there yesterday and Brynn was having a hard time and cried most of the time we were there. I got plenty of the "you're the worst mom ever for not dropping everything you are doing to holdher while you are pushing an enormous cart full of stuff" looks. I just ignored them all and let her continue to cry...I guess I just might be the worse mom ever...oh well!
This is hilarious and sooooooo familiar. I know just what you mean. And, I remember parenting classes that said, "don't give in to your tantrumming (?) child, even in public. They need to learn to behave in stores, etc. But, there's always someone, like the Walmart lady all ready to call DCFS with no knowledge of what went on or what you're needing to do as a parent. Jenn keeps saying she can't buy a small, closely spaced house/condo because the neighbors are just too close and would not understand the tantrums.
I say bring it on, call the authorities, after a few hours with the children they will return them with an apology! :) Love kids, even with the tantrums!
Ha ha. AMEN! I hate it when strangers think they know what's best for your family when they have NO idea what the kids have been up to or anything else for that matter.
That's awesome, I can't really say that exact thing has happened to me. But, yes people do say the weirdest things while in Wal-mart.
