what I have learned

I have learned that it is no fun to pinch pennies....but this recession has been a blessing in disguise for our family....it has caused us to monitor every cent that goes out and put value to each penny......I have never appreciated the value of money as I have since October......I had a hard time getting shifts at the hospital around the holidays, and we had depended upon that money.....however, after going through our finances penny by penny, we realized that we spend a lot of money on useless things.....such as blowing money at Costco and Target......

I have learned to set a budget, pay the bills, and put some money aside for a rainy day...because there are always rainy days.

We have not put anything on a credit card for 9 months...it's cash or not at all.

I love our house and neighborhood and will never move, and luckily are heads are on straight and we are now paying attention to every cent. We work hard at our jobs for our money, like everyone does...and decided that we are sick of subconsciously spending money.

We are on a mission to pay off student loans, the credit card etc....then work on paying the house off......

in the meantime we have been able to do some fun things with our children! And our kids are learning the best lesson of all!!! How to take care of your money.

We are so blessed to have jobs, our health, our family and our home...when so many people are without jobs, losing their homes, and cannot afford health insurance......I encourage any of you out there that don't watch where every penny goes....to start. Really. You will be amazed at what you spend money on.......I highly recommend reading any of Dave Ramsey's books...but especially The Total Money Makeover (i have it, don't buy it, just borrow mine)......or watching his shows that come on every night on FOX...I record them all.

Good luck!

I couldn't agree with you more! Although this still isn't my strong point, I've improved tremendously over the years. I just finished reading "The Richest Man In Babylon" and thoroughly enjoyed it. It has been around forever (written in 1926)and is a short book well worth your time. Although Babylon is in the bible, the book isn't religious.

I love Dave Ramsey. I listen to his radio show when I can. It's on Am radio, 570knrs. I wish I could be better at this...and like Nat, I have gotten better over the years, but we all have room to improve!
