Thank you for your letter expressing your support for the Combating Child Exploitation Act of 2007 (S. 1738). I am one of the original cosponsors of this legislation and I am pleased to know of your strong support.
As you know, S. 1738 was introduced on June 27, 2007. If enacted, it would establish a number of Justice Department programs aimed at coordinating state and federal efforts to prevent Internet crimes against children. The bill was reported by the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 15, 2008 and action on the Senate floor is currently pending. A similar bill, the Protect Our Children Act (H.R. 3845), was agreed to in the House of Representatives on November 15, 2007.
As you, I am very concerned about safety of our nation's children. In recent years, I have led a number of efforts aimed at protecting our children from various criminals, including child pornographers and sex offenders, who often utilize the Internet to prey upon the sometimes naive young people in our society. I believe that it is important that we continue to make the protection of our children among our nation's highest priorities. Rest assured that my support for this effort will continue. Thank you, once again, for writing Sincerely, Orrin G. HatchUnited States Senator

Not to burst your bubble. But an intern wrote that letter. The summer I interned for Hatch I wrote a bazillion constituent letters on health legislation. But I am sure you know that. We did keep count however of how many letters we got on different issues.
