A bike doesn't fit in an Easter basket?

I have always enjoyed Easter since i've been a mom (and of course as a child) but as a mom because it's such a simple holiday....the Easter Bunny fills the kids' basket with candy, little goodies, maybe a matchbox car, or a little princess something or other.... Most of the fun is checking out your goodies, eating Sunday dinner with the family, coloring Easter eggs with the kids...and then finding all the eggs that the Easter Bunny hides......

But....today at Target, I was buying some Birthday presents for parties my children are invited to this weekend... and overheard "Easter Bunnies" talking about what else besides a new bike they could get the kids....maybe a Wii...??? What? Easter has turned into a mini Christmas...and I think it's so sad.....sad that people take the simpleness away from a holiday and make it so crazy and spend way too much money along the way....anyway, i'll get off my soapbox now....but people wonder why they are so much in debt!? Duh!

amen to that! I felt like a cheap-o last night at target and walmart. My kids got very simple things. Lily got "enchanted" from us, and my in laws got her a bike helmet, which I thought was a little mcuh for easter. But I heard these ladies talk about what their kids were getting and I was FLOORED! My kids get a new outfit, and ONE gift, plus all the terribly yummy candy. Jackson got the Bee movie, and porter got a little toy. I was not about to use a credit card on easter, for the love people! And for starters.... maybe its time to really reflect on what Easter really is about, and not what people have turned it into. Just my thought.

I agree. Easter is one of my favorite holidays...not because of what the world has made it out to be, but because of the real meaning of easter. Besides, if we blow easter out of proportion...that just means we have to try that much harder to make Christmas BIGGER and BETTER each year!!

I was in Target about a week before Easter and heard a lady talking on the phone about how she bought each of her 3 or 4 kids three new outfits each...then she went on to say that she got her little boy a set of real golf clubs for Easter because his grandparents were getting him golf lessons for Easter! What?! I guess if Jaxon heard this he would be pretty disappointed with his $10 cheapo golf clubs the Easter Bunny brought him!

Oh my gosh...I thought I was really stretching it by putting sunglasses and a book in their baskets. I think it's the first year I"ve even done that. Hearing this doesn't make me want to do more, it actually makes me want to go back to candy only. I was at Target at closing the night before Easter and "mini Christmas" was my very thought...it was a zoo! When Jeremy was saying he got this cool book in his basket, his friend told him all the new video games he got in his, and I wondered what in the heck I'm supposed to tell my kids?! I think next year we'll do all the Easter Bunny stuff on Saturday anyway. {Vent over. :) }
